*** Can I use my Donor Advised Fund or family foundation to underwrite DAA?

In accordance with the IRS, if you are paying for your sponsorship using a Donor Advised Fund (DAF) or family foundation and plan to attend the event, individual tickets must be purchased through another funding source, in addition to the full underwriting amount. DAFs and family foundations may not provide any personal benefit to the donor. SMU recommends that underwriters consult their DAF manager, tax advisor, and legal counsel for definitive tax guidance. If you do not attend the event, your sponsorship may be funded 100% through your DAF or family foundation.
